Looking to fill the major gaps in my lineage caused by death and adoptions. Supposedly the family on my mother's side (Michael (Ann) Cain) started with a great grandfather (Tarpley-Tapley) came over from Spain(?) with his French (Alsatian) wife.
They took the name given them-Tapley. My mother's mother was one of about 6 (?) children; Mary Marguerite Tapley (my grandmother)and her sisters, Coletta, Penny(?) (Bride-a nick name) , Bernice, Kathleen, who I am named after and Latisha (paternity rumored questionable).
My grandfather was Jesse Bell Cain(San Antonio Texas), married 8 times I am told. I only knew my grandmother and the last wife, Trixie (?), he was a saloon owner.
My dear mother married three times. First was Charles Gravis, sons are Charles Michael, Harwell Jay, Kearney Jim, Duncan Doyle. All but one of them refuse me any audience, as our parents divorced and the story I was told was that the great grandparents left all the money in the boys names and therefore, grandparents and dad fought for custody and loneranger mom left. They were told their mom abandoned them.
When I was eighteen I found out that I have a half sister out there as a result of a date-rape. My mother gave her up for adoption. She was born a year before me, so around 1963, I was born 4/1/64.
Second was my biological father, an adopted man who took the name Tom Samples(Indiana, Evansville, Logasport?), his brother supposedly took the last name Armstrong. He was a widower, and my mother so resembled his dead wife and that is what drove their relationship from what I was told. There were 3 children from his first marriage.
My parents were about to have their marriage annulled when mother found out she was preggers with me and when she returned to tell my dad, the story I was told was that he had been shot by some other woman! Of course in that day a woman did not exactly do well to have a child out of wedlock and she was married to my stepfather before I was even born. His name is Harry A. (?) Osterman(Indiana, Evansville?). They were divorced soon afterwards. My mother never married again.
My grandmother never married again either. My great aunts were even more colorful. My aunt Latisha who I was closest to, married three times that I know of. The first I never knew but heard many a story about, they had two sons, Terry and Tim. The second man's name escapes me but I remember him with great fondness, the third was the one I remember well. H.V. Berry. He died from complications of emphysema (sp?) on the nite I graduated from High School.
Aunt Tish died very near the date I had my second child. She looked just like my aunt when she was born.
Bernice had three boys I knew well when I was young. I called them uncles; Kenneth, Jay and Dennis, their father was Edward Norton. Enough for now.
