Hi Brenda. You will find quite a few Tapley passengers to the American colonies of the 1600s (and later in the Passenger lists published by Philby & Meyer. I've looked thru the copies held in my local Family History Centre in Maidstone, Kent, UK. Also, much depends on whether you're a descendant of the Devonshire Taplegh / Tapley clan or from the Topcliffe clan. I'm not sure if the name variations occurred in the US in the same way they did in England, i.e. in England a large number of Topcliffe / Topliffe families became Tapcliff / Tapliff hence Tapley's. My own family used the Topley / Tapley variations apparently willy-nilly until around 1800.
