My focus had been on the Brown family,so I didn't really delve into the Tarpley's that much.
There was a 1747 land transaction involving 297 acres with James Blackwell of St Paul's Parish that indicated that James Tarpley was already living in St. Andrews Parish Brunswick Co. The land description was:
" which adjoined Brown at the mouth of the Lick Branch, and to James Mathews's line, crossing at Wildcat Creek. [BDB3:293] "
I was trying to figure out the Brown family of Wildcat Creek, because I think that they were related to Richard Brown, the father of Edna Brown.
James Tarpley's next land transaction in 1750 was to acquire 1/2 of Augustine Hightowers 400 acre land grant of 1746, which I think was the same 200 acres that he sold to Charles Tarpley in 1779 for 50 pounds.
I have in my notes that Edna Brown could be married to any of the Tarpley's mentioned in that 1779 deed which I have cut and pasted below.
Witnesseth that the said James Tarpley Senr. For divers good causes himself hereunto moved but more especially for and in consideration of the just and full sum of fifty pounds...he doth freelyThis Indenture made twenty first day of April one thousand seven hundred and seventy-nine between James Tarpley Senr. ***me again....Is the James Tarpley Sr of 1779 the original James Tarpley?? Or is his son James now the Senior?
