Recently at an estate sale I bought a wonderful, large oak-framed portrait of CHARLES TARR III of Rockport, MA. There is a gold plate on the front that gives his name, town and dates 1808-1878. Research shows he was the son of Benjamin Tarr and Lucy Poole of Rockport. In 1850 he was a mariner, in 1860 a lender and 1870 without occupation. You can see from valuation that he was a well-to-do man. Research also shows he married Sally Stockman (1808-1892) of Gloucester, daughter of John Stockman and Sally Sayward Tarr and that they had children Charles W, Benjamin, Silas, Lucy, Mary Orren. Is he anyone's ancestor and do you know anything more about this family? Thank you! Debbie Wilson, North Sandwich, NH.
