Joseph Edward TATUM was the adopted son of Madge Fuller & Charlie Henry Tatum. Charlie died in 1930. In WWII Joe served in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier in the 15th Air Force in Europe. After the war he went to work for an accounting firm in Charlotte, NC. His mother had remarried to James T. Burton and they resided in Charlotte. Joe re-enlisted in the Air Force in 1947. On Dec. 22, 1948 while serving on the crew of an Air Force B-50 bomber, Joe perished along with all his crew-mates when their plane crashed into a mountain on atraining flight in Alaska. On Jan. 2, 1949 Joe's body was returned to his home base, Davis Monthan Air Force base in Arizona. I have been unable to find any record of where Joe was eventually buried. There is no indication that he ever married. He is not buried in any city-owned cemetery at Charlotte, nor have I been able to find any newspaper announcement of a funeral at Charlotte. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
