James, Consider the possibility that the Tauls came from southern England. I've checked indexes to passenger lists of immigrants coming to the colonies.Mary Tall is listed in V. 5 of BONDED PASSENGERS TO AMERICA. This volume covers the Western Circuit, 1664-1775: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset, & Wilshire, with a list of the Rebels of 1685. Mary is listed as coming to American in 1742, three years before Arthur Thomas Taul was born. Remember our name was spelled TALL in Maryland before Arthur came to Kentucky. If you accept the story that his mother came as an indentured servant, this may be a good place to start looking. I haven't had a chance to follow up. By the way, there were Talls in Virginia and Maryland in the 1650s and 1690s.
Yours truly,
Glen Taul
