Thank you for taking the time to answer my inquiry. This is my "brick wall" and I have spent may hours looking for Jenny and Catherine. Some of our family have the look of Native Americans with dark skin and dark hair.I was told by some of my older relatives that we are of Native American descent, therefore, I have been looking in that direction for clues to Jenny's ID.I know that my g-g-grandfather, Jenny's husband Leander Teater and his family, are from Germany to Westmoreland County PA to Shelby County IL to TN and then to Calhoun County AR.I know there are lot's of Teaters in Kentucky, but I have not found a connection to my family.
When I saw the 1880 Hardeman County TN census for Geo. Cupp-Head; S. C. (Catherine?) Cupp-daughter; and B. Jane (Jenny?) Cupp-grandaughter, I thought that maybe the mother had not been married or had not taken her husband's name. That was the reason, I was wondering about the naming traditions of the different tribes.I will keep looking and maybe find something one of these days. Thanks again for your time....lh
