My name is Jodi. I am using my son's account. Jan and I work together on solving the Tedder, etc. families. Jan emailed me with your post. I am a descendant of Harmon Tudor/Tuder/Tedder of Grandville/Chatham. Harmon was born between 1760-1770. Harmon was in Wilkes, NC as of 1820 and he died there before 1840. All the Tedder/Tudor's in Wilkes descend from Harmon. We had many James in our family though I don't know if your James could have been one of ours. Some of Harmon's descendants left Wilkes. I now some to KY and TN so it is possible your James could belong to our line. Something you could check into. There were Howard families in the Wilkes area as well. One of our Tedder's in Wilkes took a DNA test and we do match DNA on other Tudor's of Grandville NC and VA. No one has located my Harmon's parents to date despite what has been posted on the web. There is a lot of made up info on this line based on assumptions not fact with paper documentation. This is a work in progress. Family Tree DNA does have a Tudor/Tedder DNA project going should you find any direct male Tedder descendants in your line that might want to test. This may help your rsearch and where to locate your missing paper trail. If I come up with anything further will let you know.
