The info on the Tennellys in Gail RobertThomas' book ismainly my research that I sent to him.He has given me credit on page 40.Unfortunatly he included the name of Monica who m Josiah Tennelly as Monica Brooke. In an update/addition/corrections he has noted that this has not been proven. With numerous trips to the Md State ARchives I was able to separate the families of Philip and Charles Tennelly/Tenly in the 1700s. And of course they used Fenly/Finly also. Ugh a pain but.. believe the work is reasonable correct for the 1700s.
I would imagine people in the past gave the surname of Brooke to Monica because of her son's name, Charles Brooke Tennelly. As I mentioned, in working with the records at the MD State Archives I could neither prove or disprove. The Brooke/Brook family of MD has been well documented, published but.. there are always those missed.
The one item which might point to Monica being a Brooke, other then naming Charles "Brooke", is that Josiah Tennelly was exec. to the estate of an Eleanor Brookes, 1 Mar 29, 1775. Pr Geo's Co. MD.
Unfortunate this record gives no clue as to any relationship.AS an Eleanor m Thomas Tennelly (uncle of Josiah)and then two other men, I wondered if this was the same lady, married for the 4th time to a Brooke, again could not come up with an answer. Mary Ann
