According to a small article in the Fernandina Express, dated May 21, 1881, the Estate of Sam. Russel, Sr. "Notice of Application for Letters of Administration.Notice is hereby given that six weeks after date, I will apply to Hon. H. Baker, County Judge in and for Nassau County, for Letters of Administration on the Estate of Sam. Russel, Sr., deceased, late of said county." /s/ Martin Whittmore
Florida Land Grants Volume I shows the following information:Samuel Russell (of Duval) Claim 350 Acres.150 Cross Swamp, 2 miles from Old Township 150 N. Side Nassau River 2 miles below John Christopher's plantation called St. Marie.Samuel Russell Sr. family wife, 6 children and 4 slaves.
From Reports of Mounted Militia St. Marys River Area, June 6, 1793 - First Company of Mounted Militia shows a Samuel Russell, married, lives with Jorge Aron.Note there is also a Lt. Jorge Arons, married, little St. Marys on the same list.Perhaps Samuel was living with that family.
