FAMILY ANECDOTAL HISTORY HAS PASSED DOWN THE INFORMATION THAT MY PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER AND POSSIBLY HER SISTERS WERE BORN IN THE 450 RIVER ROAD HACKENSACK NJ TERHUNE HOUSE WHICH "WAS ACROSS FROM THE COURTHOUSE". Her father, to the best of our knowledge was John(Johannes?) D. (David?) Terhune. Nothing is known of his ancestery. My Grandmother was born in 1888 as Kathryn (?) Terhune. Her mother was Sarah (Sara?) Westervelt. No information. John D. died sometime after the birth of Kathryn. Her siblings were Mabel and Hazel. Sarah remarried to Floyd Graham. There were no male issue. There have been vague references to an uncle (no given name) with the surname DeGroot who is said to have owned a large tract of land in the area of Hackensack. There is also a vague reference of an ancestor who was served in the cavalry during the Civil War.
Any ideas anybody? We are conducting some research in Hackensack at this time but any information would be greatly appreciated.
