Haynie edited by Roy Clingenpeel).(Lots of the info was inaccurate - st) He was a Missionary for the Methodist Episcopal Church South, Surveyor, School Teacher, Farmer and Music Teacher.Received his education in the Summerville Institute of Gholson, MS.Moved to Cameron, TX in 1885.John worked at a cotton gin, taught at subscription schools and through the summer taught music.He then moved the family to Spanish Fort, Montague Co., TX in 1885 where he was Mayor then to Leon, Indian Territory in 1885 where he farmed for 3 years, then moved to Dixie.In 1891 they moved to Belcherville, Montague, TX.It was here he heard news of the Rock Island and Pacific Railroad receiving a permit to extend it’s line from Wichita, KS through Indian Territory to the Red River from the Commissioner of Indian affairs.They moved in the early spring of 1892 and lived in an old school building near the present site of Terral, OK(founded the town of Terral IT) till their home was built in June 1892.The entire area had been planted in Oats and already in shocks when John laid out the town.He enlisted the help of Hugh Schoolfield of Belcherville to help him survey and lay it out.He was made Postmaster on 8 August 1892.Buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Las Vegas, San Miguel, NM section J.
