MORTIMER TESCHNER was b. in New York City in September 1889 [not 1885], the son of CAMILLO TESCHNER [b. Vag Besztercze, Hungary, 9 July 1855] and his wife TILLIE [b. New York City, Jan. 1869].I don't know Tillie's maiden name, but -- according to the 1900 census -- she and Camillo Teschner were married about 1887.Their oldest child was STELLA TESCHNER, b. NYC, Feb. 1888, and then Mortimer was born a year later.
The 1920 census of New York City shows that Mortimer Teschner was living at 390 184th St., Bronx, and that he was married to GERTRUDE.I don't know her maiden name either but, according to the Social Security Master Death Index, she was b. on 1 Jan. 1894 and d. in NYC in August 1976, age 82.
In 1920, Mortimer and Gertrude had just one child, a son, Bernard Teschner [b. 28 July 1918; d. Scarsdale, NY, 22 Apr. 1994].There may have been other children as well, but, if so, they were born after the 1920 census was taken.
Mortimer's father, Camillo Teschner, was a first cousin to my great-grandmother, Adella (Teschner) Tauber.Camillo's parents were ISIDOR TESCHNER [b. Vag Besztercze, Hungary, 2 Dec. 1815; d. NYC, 20 Feb. 1891] and his wife, NETTIE (ROTH) TESCHNER [b. 1819; d. NYC, 11 May 1893].Isidor and Nettie had a total of six children:Emil Teschner (1844-1869), Augusta (Teschner) Paskus (1846-1909), Euphemie /"Fannie" Teschner (b. 1849; living in NYC, 1870), Sidonia Teschner (1853-1854), Camillo Teschner (b. 1855), and Martin M. Teschner (b. 1859).With the exception of Emil and Sidonia (both of whom died in Europe), all of Isidor and Nettie's children came to the United States.Isidor and Nettie followed them here about 1884.
I would be very interested in hearing about your connection to this family.I visited Vag Besztercze a year ago [which is now known as Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia], and have been able to trace these Teschners back to about 1710.When you get a chance, e-mail me at "[email protected]".
