Andrew Tessier appears in the records of St. Patrick's, Hogansburg at the baptism of nine of his children. The records spell his name five different ways: Tessier,Tesier,Tecier,Tacey, and Tacy. In the 1860 census (Bombay, NY) it is spelt Tacia, and apparently he is also shown in the 1850Bombay census but I have not confirmed that. In the 1880 (Brasher Falls) census his surname is spelt as Tacy. I have reason to believe that his name was André Tessier dit Lavigne, a descendent of Urbain Tessier who came to Canada from France in about 1640. His wife was Therese Leduc, but in some records she is called Clarissa. The 1860 census says she was born in NY state, but the 1880 says Canada. Andrew wasborn in 1809 or 1811, and Therese in 1822 or 1830, depending on which census you believe. According to the 1860 census their eldest child was Alvira (female) sometimes spelt as Elmire. She was born in NY around 1841, so the marriage would be around 1840 which makes Therese's birth date more likely to be 1822.
Here is what I have on the children: Alvira or Elmire, born 1841 (1860 census). She could have moved to Ottawa, Ontario - see 1880 census. Ellen or Helen, born 2 March 1843 (Hogansburg records). She married Joseph Derocher 25 August 1872. Andrew, born 28 May 1845(Hogansburg records) Roseanna, born 27 May 1847(Hogansburg records). I believe she married Evangeliste Leclair 6 Jan 1866. They had several children baptized at Hogansburg. Antoine, born 1852(1860 census). He married Lucy Seguin. They had a daughter Miriam- Charlotte who married in St. Andrews Church, Little Rock, Ark., 29 Nov 1919 to Harry Bullock. Another daughter, Lucy R., married Charles E. Carter in Montreal, 3 June 1915. Charles, born 30 June 1853(Hogansburg records) Catherine, born 31 April 1855(Hogansburg records) Regis (Richard), born 27 March 1857(Hogansburg records) John, born 3 March 1859(Hogansburg records) Sarah-Anne Miriam, born 16 June 1863(Hogansburg records)
I would appreciate any information that you have. I believe my great-grandmother may have been connected to this family.
