Mark, I just now found your post of February 17, 2002, and think we have a connection. My husband's Great Great Grandmother was Rosana/Rosalia Tessmer Splittstoser.According to my records, she had three children with her when she arrived in the United States:Michael (my husband's Great Grandfather)1853-1937; Charles abt. 1856-unknown; and Augusta abt. 1863-unknown (could she have been the baby accidentally dropped into the water?). I have a feeling that Rosa was already married to Frederick Splitstoser when she arrived in the U.S., but I have no proof.I have her with Fred. and her three children (listed as stepchildren to Fred. in the 1880 census) in the 1870, 1875, and 1880 Minnesota and Federal censuses.I know nothing about brothers to Carl (Charles, I assume) named Johann and Fred.I would be interested in where you got that information.Michael, the oldest son to my knowledge, brother to Carl (Charles) married Hulda Heinrich about 1882, and gave birth to 3 children: Charles, Laura, and Gustav.Laura Tessmer was my husband's grandmother, who married Benjamin Geist in 1915. I am hopeful of hearing from you, and are hoping that we can exchange information on this family.
