I've assembled some material on the emigration of Jorg Dieter to the US in 1727 and his family in Pendleton County West Virginia.
The Dieter's were from Schwaigern Germany, arrived in 1727 in Philadelphia and by 1760 had moved to the Germany Valley in Pendleton County West Virginia.Jorg's son, George and his homestead became Teterton.Jorg's other son, Philip named the Teter Gap and Teter Run.Philip's grandson, Noah named the Teter Hollow.
Many of the offspring would move away in the early 1800s.Some to Cahokia and Kasakaskia Illinois, some to Downs Illinois and some to Tetersburg Indiana.Still others would migrate to Missouri ... and Kansas ... and other locations 'out west'.
There are now about 1000 Teter's in the US, all from this one person, Hans Jorg Dieter [and his wife Margaretha Luttman].
There is, of course, another Jorg Dieter who likely spawned the Ross County Ohio Teter's.There are probably over 1000 of them too, but I'll leave their family history to the experts.
