A followup date for you and good source of info.
This database of Surnames from County Kerry, Ireland in cooperation with Rootsweb.com was updated January 3, 2000.
My goal for this site is to provide for researchers a list that accumulates in one-location surnames of Irish ancestors found in County Kerry. This list will hopefully provide family historians a starting place for further research and to help you determine if the name you are seeking existed in the southwestern corner of Ireland.
The database includes certain non-Irish Surnames, such as those of German Palatines* who immigrated to Ireland beginning in the 18th century. Surnames recorded are those of Ireland's Old Gaelic founders (O'CONNOR) and Anglo-Norman names (BLENNERHASSETT) as well as common Irish names (KELLY).
To those who are particular about documentation, my sources for this broad-based list embrace writings such as "Irish Palatine Families" taking information from Henry Z. Jones', "Irish Palatine Journal" and "Palatine Families of Ireland" citing arrivals to Limerick & Kerry 1709-1720. And Edward MacLysaght's "More Irish Families", 1982, [ISBN 0 7165 0126 0] a supplement to his "Irish Families". More current information, 1880 AD on, is taken from on-line sites, e-mail and personal correspondence of my family. Given names are not associated with certain surnames. Dates shown for a particular surname are the earliest available per reviewed records.
As a caveat to all, I have assumed that certain County Kerry Surname information given by individuals is truthful and correct.
This page will be updated as frequently as possible. Your comments, suggestions and additions are welcomed. Only I am responsible for the content (and errors) herein.

* Palatine Names
Like the ship of the same name in Whittier's poem, a "Palatine" is a person of strength and courage. A Palatine is of German birthright, whom Mother Nature and Man sent reeling among the rocks and reefs of a cruel everyday existence in the Pfalz of the former Holy Roman Empire from 1690 to 1709 A.D. He finally grounded himself on the rocky earth that was Ireland, especially in the Munster Counties of Limerick and Kerry.

p. 16, 1759 Rowan County Militia Lists (cont.) On April 16, 1760 Captain Conrod Michael submitted his claim for expenses for men sent out scouting on four occasions in 1759. Two of these scouting parties included Jacob Teeder (June 2 and July 3, 1759). They were out for 6 days each time, and were paid 2/8 per day, or 16 shillings per trip.
p. 34, 1759 Rowan County Tax List (cont.) Jacob Teater appears on the 1759 Tax List with a 1 after his name, which I take to mean his household only included one titheable--no other adult males or slaves.--

Minutes Of Court For OHIO COUNTY
Monday, the second day of June 1777: "... The following Militia officers took the oath of office in open Court (Viz): David Sheepherd as Colon., Sam. McCulloch as Major, Sam. Mason, Jn. Mitchel, Joseph Ogle & Sam Teter as Captains, Sam Tumlinston, Jn. Biggs, Derek Hoaglin, & Tho. Gillaland as Lieutenants, & William Sparks as Ensign of Militia.
NOTE , Samuel Teater was ranked Capt in the year 1777. He may have had the rank earlier in Rowan Co. He was very old for the conditions of times when he married abot 35 yrs old. Possible he had 1st wife in Rowan Co NC, This Capt could also have been one of the Elder Teaters fom the 1753 to 1760 period Samuel Jacob George or Joseph. TEEDER TEDDER TEATER.
It appears by the fact that Paul Smeltzer Frederick Starns and George Teater where tied into the South Irirsh Colony of the Crab Creek Tract New River.Paul Smeltzer or several of them having records in Limerick Ireland that George Teater belonged to that group. Paul Smeltzer was listed in the Dublin returns with oTher Smeltzers along with 2 George Tetlers Teters. By timelines of George Teater Jacob Teater Teeder ect, they show to have come from Ireland as 2nd generation German Irish between 1730 to 1744.. George and Samuel should be the sons of one of these Irish Germans Joesph George Jacob Samuel Teder Tedder Teater ect. They could have been been born in Ireland or America between NC to VA. George and Samuel by this time would of been 3rd generation Irish from the 1st Germans who came early on to Limerick. This would be the reason they self identified as Irish or Scotch Irish by themselves and others.. Many of the other families tied into Crab Creek also had the same origins and several where George Teaters in laws-
TYTER name is very rare and usual to County Kerry. Some nice people on the Kerry rootsweb were kind enough to find out some information on the TYTER name for me. They told me that TYTER is a Palantine name found in Co. Kerry. The TYTER's were French Huguenots who came from the Palantine area of Germany. They left Palantine, Germany went to Holland, London and Ireland in search of religious freedom. Later on theseThey made settlements in the Limerick City and Kerry areas. The TYTER's were orginally named DETLOR/TETTLER, but when they came to Ireland the name was changed to TYTER.
