Greetings all! This is my first post here.
My father passed away in 2008 and I have recently been going through some old records.
My paternal grandmother's name was Helena (Helen?) Wilhelmine Tetzlaff, and as far as I can make out, she must have been born somewhere near Kendrick, ID, which is a small town a bit to the southeast of Moscow, ID (and I think it is in Latah County).
Here, verbatim, is what I see written down (hand written, in longhand) on what appears to be a very old and yellowed scrap of paper that I found among my father's papers.I have no idea who even wrote it. (I have put question marks in where some of it was illegible.)
The Birth dates of Aron Tetzlaff Children.
Laura Dorthea Tetzlaff born February 13, 1889.
Arthur Aron Tetzlaff born September 28, 1890.
Clara C???tine Tetzlaff born September 28, 1892.
Helen[sic] Wilhelmine Tetzlaff born November 5, 1893.
Herman Heinrich Tetzlaff born December 18, 1898.
all the above were born in Latah County near
Floyd ?? Tetzlaff bprn August 23, 1918.
born in Lewis County in city of Kamiah, Idaho.
(This is just a guess, but my guess is that that last sibling is/was probably a half-sibling of all of the others listed above.I am basing that guess on the long gap between his date of birth and that of all of the other siblings AND also on something obscure my father told me, back when he was alive.I remember him saying that his mother, Helena, possibly also with sister Clara, left home... ran away?... at a very early age... probably mid to late teens... because they didn't much like the way they were treated by their new step-mother.Based on that fragmentary story, I have to conclude that Aron Tetzlaff, my great grandfather, was in all probability married more than once in his lifetime.)
Based on other research I have done, I have also have learned the following:
My paternal grandmother, Helena (spelled incorrectly above) died September 1, 1977 in California (Bay Area).I remember her passing, so this part, at least came from my direct experience, rather than from research, but the exact date of death came from research, because I had long ago forgotten that.Helena's husband, my paternal grandfather, Louis M. Guilmette was born July 30, 1882 and died May 1, 1971 in California (Bay Area).I knew them both well and have many happy memories of Thanksgiving & Christmas dinners with them at their home in Los Altos, CA.
I believe that Helena's sister Clara's married name was probably Clara Van Meter and that she died in or near Everett, WA, Snohomish County, WA, November 10, 1967:
Unfortunately, I do not know much else. Both of my parents were VERY tight-lipped about my whole family tree for all of my life, and they actively discouraged me from asking too many questions about it.
I do know that my dad had one sister, maiden name Yvonne Guilmette (also by Helena & Louis Guilmette) and although I cannot find any real information about her, I also know that she had one (and only one?) child, a daughter, who I believe was named Helen, and who migrated at some point from the West Coast to someplace in Illinois (Danville area?).
I am guessing, based on hints uncovered in my research, that Yvonne's married name was probably Yvonne Milliron.
I knew essentially nothing about either my aunt Yvonne or my cousin Helen until I recently started doing online research. My research seems to indicate that Helen (Elaine?) Milliron (1912-1962?) got married, (twice?), firstly to a fellow whose last name was "Merchant" (producing a son named Charles Wayne Merchant, born June 4, 1954 in Little Rock, Arkansas) and that she then married a Mr. Jackie Leroy Coon, Sr. and then had three children with him, i,.e. Linda Coon (born 11 Nov 1957, Little Rock, Arkansas), Deborah Elaine Coon (born 22 May 1958, Danville, Vermilion Co., Illinois), and Jackie Ann Coon (born 24 May 1960, Denver, Colorado).
Since I found this information, I have been seeking to make contact with Deborah Elaine Smoot (nee Coon) who I believe has posted to this TETZLAFF thread here several times in the period 2001-2011 using the names Deborah Smoot, Debbie Smoot, and more recently the name Elaine Coon.Deborah Elaine, if you read this, then please contact me by phone.I'm in the book. (Check Switchboard.com for Roseville, California.)
The same goes for any other folks reading this and who either are or may be related to any of the people mentioned above.Give me a call!I'd be happy to talk.I'll tell you what I know, and you can tell me what you know.
If you are related to or descended from any Tetzlaff in or from the vicinity of northeastern Idaho, particularly Kendrick or the Moscow area, then I would be willing to bet that you and I are related, even if only distantly.
