The parish registers for St Andrew’s Halstead, (where Robert Tevis married Honor Smith on the 16/10/1682) are available to view and download online at SEAX ‘Essex Ancestors’. I have searched the registers for any other records for Tevis and have found the following entries which do not seem to appear elsewhere: Births/Baptisms Robert Tevice son of George Tevice and Rosa? his wife was born 16/12/1646 Mary the daughter of Georg Tivice and Rosa? his wife was born 25/3/1653 George the son of Will. Tives and Sarah his wife was born 8/4/? and baptised 25/1/1662. Francis daughter of Caroli (Charles) Tivess and Alicia his wife was baptised 6/9/1663 Elizabeth daughter of Robert and Honour Tivis baptised 24/10/1686 Baptisms between 1669 and 1686 are missing, so the baptism of Elizabeth is the earliest surviving record for any child of Robert and Honour (married 19/10/1682)
Marriages 18/6/1673 George Tiviss Junior married Joan Hoal 19/10/1682 Robert Tivis married Honor Smith 31/3/1687 Mary Tivis married John Reynolds a Carpenter
Burials Georg Tiffise child was buried last of December 1652/53? 1/6/1670 Thomas the son of William Tives? 11/6/1674 The Widow Tevis 1/2/1717 Ann Tevise’s child 27/5/1722 Widow Teviss 30/12/1724 Robert Tivis 20/5/1726 Widow Tivis 16/8/1738 Henry Tevis? 23/4/1742 Mary Reynolds (nee Tevis, John Reynolds wife?)
Many of the entries are difficult to decipher, but I hope that most of the above are correct. The burial of Robert Tivis and the Widow Tivis in 1724 and 1726 respectively, may be Robert and Honor who marry in 1682. Many of the records are missing, so this is necessarily an incomplete list. If Robert and Honor had a son named Robert who went to America and was the founder of the family there, any record helping to substantiate this may have been lost. However, as I live near to Halstead in the county of Essex, and am the 8xg-granddaughter of Robert Tevis ‘the boatman’, I continue to hope!
