I believe that I have recently located the place where Daniel and Polly (Brown) had lived in Sandwich, NH. It appears to be the same place that Daniel's Nephew Wesley Tewksbury lived in the late 1800's.
I found in the town records the following notation regarding the layout of roads. Here is an excerpt; "The highway begining at said Whiteface road near the new school house and running eastwordly as the road is now traveled (route 113A)until it crosses the bridge over the branch of the Swift River then running east on the line until it strikes the southeast corner of the fourth lot in the eleveneth range then Northeasterly by Daniel Tukesbury's house where the road is now traveled until it strikes the line betwixt Sandwich and Tamworth." I received maps of that area from Charles Tewksbury of Chocorua, Tamworth Twp., NH.Wesley Tewksbury's homesite is identified on the map. It appears to be the same location as Daniel's home. This home is just 1/2 mile from the Tamworth line. I oticed "Tewksburry Brook" flowing into Mill Brook on/near the property. I also noticed "Brown Hill" in Tamworth and wonder whether the wife of Daniel, Polly Brown, could be related to the family for which the hill was named. It is not far from where Daniel had lived. The map also shows that Brown Hill is a mile from where both Wesley and Daniel had lived; plenty close for Daniel to go "courting."
I am begining to suspect that several generations from Wesley to his 2nd gr-grandfather Timothy lived on the same land or in close proximity.I wonder also when/how Tewksburry Brook got it's name. It seems the more I know, the more intriguiging this becomes. For copies of the map please contact me.
