We recently formed a dual geographic project on Family Tree DNA for the Nappers, Dortons, and Thackers who migrated from Louisa County; Virginia to what is now Vinton County, Ohio in the mid 1830's.We are hoping to test male descendants (father to son) of the original group along with mtDNA (mother to daughter) of the original group. Our primary goals are:
1. To determine ethnic background on YDNA and mtDNA of original members of Vinton County Group.
2. To use YDNA and mtDNA along with census, tax, deeds, birth, marriage, and death records to determine possible relationships between the members of the group. In some cases, DNA will tell us how individuals are NOT related.
3. To determine YDNA and mtDNA matches outside the group within the FTDNA database to help understand the roots and ancestral connections of members of the original group.
Even if you don't qualify to be tested (sadly, I don't since I have both males and females in my Thacker line), we could still use your brainpower.
We have 3 descendants of Thacker women that are already being tested. We also have a Thacker male who has been tested and found a match within Family Tree DNA but NOT to other Thacker's but another Louisa County family!
