AGNES THARRINGTON Agnes Porter Tharrington, 85, of Tarboro, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at Beverly HealthCarepeacefully.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. James United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Tharrington was the Minister of Music at St. James United Methodist for 25 years. She operated a private kindergarten at her home for more than 15 years. She served as trustee for Edgecombe Community College and as a registrar judge for Edgecombe Precinct 1-2 for many years.
She began her working career in Philadelphia, Pa., as an insurance actuarial and soloist for Temple University Church Choir.
She was born in Marietta, Pa., on Sept. 19, 1921.
She is a graduate of Upper Darby High School in Upper Darby, Pa., and Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Dr. Arthur Reno and Grace Schoeller Porter Sr.
She is survived by her husband, L. Thomas Tharrington; three daughters, Linda Tharrington Goines and husband, Richard, Mary Loiuse Tharrington, all of Tarboro; and Betty Tharrington Melton and husband, Thomas, of Wilmington; a brother, Dr. Arthur Reno Porter Jr. and wife, Ruth, of Tiffin, Ohio; and four grandchildren, L. Thomas Tharrington III, Bryan Wilder, Emily Wilder, all of Wilmington, and Edwin Tharrington-Fenner of Tarboro, and many nephews and many great-nephews and great-neices.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the home of Linda and Rick Goines in Tarboro.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Saint James Music Program or Edgecombe Community College.
