Furthering information previously sent.This is a quote from a handout received three years ago from the Thirkell School in Detroit:
"A Brief History of Thirkell School"
"The Isabell F. Thirkell School, 7724 Fourteenth, was completed in 1915 at a cost of $292,309.27.The shool was name in memory of Isabell F. Thirkell, a deceased Detroit Principal.
Miss Thirkell was born in England and came to America with her parents as a girl.She attended Detroit Schools and after graduating from the old high school in Capitol Park took up teaching in 1858.Seventeen years later, in 1875, she became principal of the Pitcher School.At the time of her death, Miss Thirkell was the oldest teacher in point of service in the Detroit Public Schools."(article contimues about the school itself)
