Hi Gary: Our branch evolved from John Thistle who was said to have been born in Scotland, moved to No. Ireland( " near Castle Dawson", ? Antrim ),made linen, had 9 kids, then emigrated to Grantsville/ Cumberland, Md with his 2 bachelor(sp?) brothers, Thomas and George about 1781. I have quite a bit of info about the family SINCE if you are interested.I'd love to find out more before 1781, but that's hard to come by. Tempting to guess that the John Thistle married in Duddingston 5/23/1719 was a related, but... I was in Duddingston this summer( on the edge of Edinburgh); it's a tiny village but was a linen making center historically( common occupation in 1700s. ) Let me know if any of this is of further interest to you. JOHN
