Greetings one & all, I am conducting genealogy research for our Thorburn Family Tree. My great, great, great grand parents James Sinclair Fergus Thorburn, born 1811 & Janet Thorburn(nee; Farr) born 1814, travelling with them were their children Alexander, William, Agnes, James & Margaret. They arrived at Port Phillip, New South Wales (now Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) on 26 January 1842 aboard the barque Robert Benn, which departed Greenock, Scotland September 1841.
I have came across a few problems... First is from the passenger manifest, the spelling of Thorburn is Thorebourne, then Janet is spelt Jannette... Second from the manifest has their native place listed as County Antrim, which is in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
From ancestry.com, I have the 1841 Scottish Cenus which has the family residents of Greenock, Glasgow, Scotland.
This where I have hit a wall, having searched the Public Records Office, Northern Ireland (PRONI) plus Scotlands People, I have not found a trace of them.
