I have been able to fill in a lot of our Thorn Family history- (much thanks to the Saline county nebraska folks!) andam making progress on this line, but am stilljust following clues here in Arkansas.
Oral Histories are proving very accurate, I got crossed upin being a small child and then as an adult , making assumptions.
Dad (Jesse Eugene Thorn b. 1901) retired here to newton county Arkasnas, saying he was comingby to where his grandma was. I made the assumption it was a Thorn grandma- since we had visited family in Berryville- and there was as trong family history in Carroll County.
But could only find his aunt Mattie - who married in Vendor and lied about 50 years in Parthenon AR.
Gave up for a while-dead end, right- could find nothing in the Newton county records. So I started work on other lines- trying to fill in blanks. So Memorial day last year we went to put flowers on dad's grave- stood talking to neighbors and then turned and fell over a grave stone. yep- Dad's grandma.
A Coleman. It was hard to find her, because she was raised by the Casey Family- her mom had died- she was a twin , as was my Dad!
started researching and found a place called Coleman's knob- an small house near Limestone That I REMEMBER being in as a small kid! on a vacation. It had haunted me that I could never find it. I remembered it so clearly.
But the written records on the Colemans here is very iffy- so am looking for any further information on the Coleman family in this area. They were strongly connected to a Lemon family- the link being Daniel Thorn-he had the fiddle foot and Dad's ggrandma *Jane Lemon Coleman) was living with her Thorn daughter-in -law for many years, while he (Daniel) wandered.there are stories of cherokee blood on the Lemon/Coleman side.
so -if anyone has any family stories to sharethat might give us clues..
I urge people to record your family stories- on the Thorn side they have proved to be the biggest resource for finding proof .
