Leonard Thornburg and Daniel Throneburg families a DNA match
Recently I joined the Thorne project at www.familytreedna.com .
The purpose was to get several Thornburg and Throneburg families from North Carolina to participate and find out if they are related to my family, the Daniel Throneburg Sr. family of Wilkes, Lincoln and Ashe Counties between 1800 and 1847.
The first individual that joined after me was Gerald Thornburg whose ancestor was Leonard Thornburg of Tennessee.
An explanation here is that Leonard Throneburg b. abt. 1796 married Dorthea Brewer(Bruel)in 1817 in Wilkes County. This in my mind placed him in the Frederick David Throneburg/Tranburg family as this is the only real Throneburg family in Wilkes County in this time
period. Leonard then moved to Lincoln county and thus Catawba County. He is found in the Lincoln county census of 1820,1830 and 1840. Leonard was a shoemaker. About
1847 Leonard moved to Tennessee (Greene,Washington Counties near Jeraldstown, TN.)His surname in Tennessee became Thornburg. he is found in the Tn. census from 1850 until his death.
On April 4th Gerald's DNA test results were posted and we are a match. This proves that the Daniel Throneburg Sr. family and Leonard Thornburg family are related and it is most likely as brothers. Their father would have been Frederick David Throneburgh of Guilford, Wilkes and Lincoln Counties of N.C. who was of German descent and I have the proof for anyone interested.
This should clear up once and for all that the Leonard Thornburg family of Tn. and N.C. is clearly of German descent. Any confusion between this Leonard Thornburg family and the Quaker Thornburg family seems to have happened after Leonard's son John J. Thornburg was confused with John Jackson Thornburg who was known as Captain Jack. I do not know who John Jackson Thornburg's father was.
Rhonda Smith please contact me .....as I have lost your email address.
Sincerely,
Ron Thornburgh
