Hi Estelle - I don't yet know who William's parents were. Burial records for St. John's Church at Little Somerford show a William Thrush being buried Jan. 25, 1816 aged 56. I believe this is the William I am descended from, which puts his birth at around 1759-1760. I thought perhaps he might be the same William as William, son of Joseph and Betty Thrush of Bremhill from whom you are descended. I don't think "my" William is Joseph and Betty's son, however, because their son William was christened in 1864 which is somewhat later than 1760. Also, there is a record of a marriage at Bremhill between William Thrush and Ann Pierce on May 17, 1788 and this William is likely Joseph and Betty's son - which mean that "my" William is not, since his wife's name was Sarah. I haven't been able to find a record in the IGI index of a marriage between William and Sarah. Some old family diaries say that our branch of the Thrushes came from Devizes. A possible descendant of my ancestor William is William Thrush, born about 1703 at Potterne and married to Marian Nash at Potterne, Devizes on 1728. They had a daughter, Mary, christened July 1732 but I don't know if there is a connection here. Do you know who your ancestor Joseph's parents were? William and Marian are possible candidates perhaps. At any rate, I'm still plugging away at trying to establish a connection among the Thrushes throughout Wiltshire. There is a Wiltshire Family History website - I don't know if you've seen it. They have lots of genealogical stuff you can order (marriage records, baptisms and burials etc.). By the way, you mentioned the names of children of Richard and Sarah (Messiter). I believe they had two other children: Abraham, christened Jan. 31, 1790 at Bremhill (from the IGI) and Jacob, christened Nov. 1, 1807 at Bremhill (also from the IGI, but only the mother's name is given - Sarah Thrush). Keep in touch.
