Hi Joanne:
I have far more questions than answers, but I am anxiously
awaiting Ancestry.com's census images for 1840, 1850, & 1860
to answer some of them. They are just releasing bits and parts of these census's this month on there site. To answer some of your questions; The Luther I am interested in is Luther T. I have seen some things as Luther F for him, but
the Luther that I believe is my ancestor enlisted as a
private on 22 September 1862 in Elma, NY at the age of 39.
He listed in Company D 94th Infantry, Regiment NY on Sept
27th 1862. He was a POW on 5 June 1864 and Pow on 14 Sept
1864. This would have him born abt 1823. I have him listed
as the son of Luther W. Thurber and Eleanor Wood, but have
no proof. He married Louisa M Pierce, Daughter of Willard
Pierce and Sophronia Waters, (some say Watters)Louisa was
born January 23, 1831 in Vermont and died April 18, 1885
in Iowa. She filed a Widow Pension on Luther T Thurber,
application 131437 August 9, 1866, a minor pension March 7,
1867 as L M Earl, and later a Widow pension for George A.
Kent on March 6, 1880 or 1890. I am not able to read it.
I assume it to be 1880 as she is listed as dying in 1885.
I show Luther Thurber and Louisa Thurber in Shiawassee County, Burns Township in the 1860 Census. That's about
all I know for now.
With Regards
