Thanks for the birth date for Mary Thwing, wife of Banjamin F. Sandford. (They married in Dec of 1884). Mary lived well over 100 years. On my next trip down east I want to locate her cemetery marker.
Several of Mary Thwing & Benjamin Sandford's children died of dipheria at an early age except for my grandmother Lilla (she passed on 29 Jan 1957, over 100 years of age after spending four years bedridden from a broken hip. A strong will.)
Mary & Benjamin had two more children, not on your list: George C. Sandford, b 12 Apr 1868; d 1 Feb 1920, an attorney; and Alice M. Sandford, b 18 Aug 1872; d 1965, age 93, who married Walter M. Turner of Hallowell, Me.
Lilla seems to have had her mother Mary Thwing's executive ability. She was one of the State Normal School, Farmington, ME, most distinguished graduates, Class of 1876 (from a source written about 1910). She was active in the Masonic Order; its Worthy Grand Matron of the State of Maine (1905-1906). And clerk of the Baptist church for many years. School teacher. Active in the woman's suffrage movement of the early 1900's. And owned and ran a boarding house.
