Tierneys of North Yorkshire
This is a new strand inviting reponses from anyone whose research has revealed a Tierney relation in North Yorkshire, England.
I am descended from Peter Tierney born in Ireland circa 1835, who married Judith (or Julia) Gaffney, also of Ireland, b 1836.
Birth dates are derived from the 1881 census.
The IGI may say Peter was from Co. Cavan. but I have heard Tipperary and other counties as possibilities.
Both settled Clifford in North Yorkshire, England, and I have the rest of the tree.
The next generation moved on to Knaresborough North Yorkshire, but there were clearly also relations in Wetherby and surrounding areas.
I have so far been unable to make the link to Ireland.
There were Tierney's in Clifford (Nr Wetherby N. Yorks before the Great hunger) and there were strong links to St Edward King & Confessor Roman Catholic Church in Clifford and Boston Spa Area (North Yorkshire).
Rose Tierney was connected with the Convent of Sisters of Mercy in Clifford and Boston Spa Area and this is an invitation to anyone who may have a connection to post follow up.
Peter Tierney eventually marriedMargaret Stead, and, I understand, there were family ties to the Shanns in that area.
I hope to hear from anyone who finds a Tierney link to this area, and I am particularly interested in any information that might suggest the area of origin in Ireland.
