1st known: Thomas Tierney, b. 1767, prob. Co Mayo.Went to Tipperary sometime after 1800. Raised large family. d. during Great Hungerm 1847, buried at Whitechurch in common grave with his son, my g-g-gf John and three Morrisssey & Murphy cousin. John's oldest, Margaret, emigrated first, appar. going to her mother's brother Michael Fitzgerald, in Norwalk, CT.John's widow, Judith Fitzgerald Tierney, followed later with the other six children, landing in NYC in Feb 1851.Went to Norwalk One son, Michael, became the 6th Bishop of Hartford.Two sons went to Providence, RI, where they set a highly successful plumbing contracting business that survived until the Depression. Thomas, my g-gf was a hatter in Norwalk, injured during Civil War, lived primarily on a pension.His 1st wife, Catherine Butler, poss. of Cashel, Co. Tipperary was my g-gm, died in childbirth in 1862 in Norwalk.Have much, much more info on family in US, but have hit a stone wall on Catherine Butler, and the Fitzgeralds in Ireland. Also one daughter who apaprently was disowned for marrying outside.We believe she may have married a Prot. policeman, last name Sullivan, and gone to live in Chicago.Any information anyone can supply would be greatly appreciated.I would be more than pleased to provide all my info to anyone who can help.
