Many people have listed Elizabeth Bassett, wife of William Bassett of Plymouth as a Tilden. William's 2nd wife was Mary (Tilden) Latham. This Mary was named in the will of her stepfather, Timothy Hatherly who married Lydia Tilden, widow of Nathaniel Tilden as "the wife of William Bassett, his wife's daughter". Many early researchers might have concluded that this referred to Elizabeth. I have still found no conlusive evidence that Elizabeth is a Tilden.
For this reason, in conjuction with my Bassett DNA y-chromosome project, I began a search for a living female line descendant of Elizabeth Bassett through one of her three daughters.
Last year I found a living female from this family and now have an mtDNA sample for this line of the family.
If someone can give me evidence as to which Tilden family they believe Elizabeth belongs to, I will search for a sister of hers and see if I can find a living female line descendant of the sister and compare mtDNA to see if they match.
If you have any information that might help in this search, you can contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
