I have the same problem. My Ggfather was Tilghman Haas, born 1860 in Northampton County, PA and he is buried at Forks Cemetery in the same county. All of his siblings have much more pedestrian American names so this name comes apparently out of nowhere. Per 1880 census, his mother Elisabetha was born in Germany and his father William was born in PA, from a father born in PA and a mother born in NJ, and that is all I know about his ancestry. At first I assumed the name was German, but coming to find out it is more English, I'm wondering if it was a family name perhaps from his father's mother's branch, about which I know nothing. So: If anyone knows of a female Tilghman, born in NJ, who might have married a man named Haas, probably in PA sometime around 1800, resulting in a son named William b.1828 (Tilghman's father) PLEASE contact me as this is one of my dead ends! Thanks!
