Marilyn: I don't know if this will be helpful or not but there is a James Tillett mentioned as a witness to the will of John Jacobs at his death in Sep 1818 in Jefferson County, TN. I am a Jacobs family researcher who at one time thought there might be connection with James Tillett to the Jacobs family since he and Peter Eckel are mentioned as witnesses to that will.
I don't know if this James Tillett was a member of the court or just happened to be at the courthouse when a witness was needed, or whether he was actually a related party to John Jacobs. I have been unable to make any connections between James and the Jacobs family.
After seeking information on where James Tillett had originated from before coming to Jefferson County another researcher of the Tillett family sent me copies of pagesfrom the book "Beginning at the White Oak" in which was mentioned that a James Tillett was a land holder in Loudon County, VA and mentioned too that two Jacobs's Joseph Jacobs and Thomas Jacobs lived nearby in Fairfax County VA.
Thus, if you are still searching try looking deeper into Jefferson County, TN and in the counties of Fairfax and Loudon in VA.
