Does anyone know who this Temple Tillis and Thankful Tillis are?
Little Ogeechee Baptist Church, Screven County, Georgia
The Number of Names Inrold (Males and Females -- about 1810)
Temple Tillis and Thankful Tillis
I came across these names while researching Daniel Bryant and his wife Marium Hendry.Daniel and Marium Bryant were ancestors on my mother's side of the family. They are listed as members of this church as Daniel Briant and Marium Briant. On my father's side, Temple Tillis (born about 1825 in Georgia) married Malisse in Alabama about 1844.
The word inrold should be enrolled. There are other names listed which are familiar to me, such as Crafford (maybe Crawford), Cason (maybe Chason), Collins, Curry, Slater, Morgan, Marlow, Jones and Lee.These are all surnames of families living in South Georgia whose ancestors came to Decatur County of which a part is now Grady County, Georgia.
My Bryant ancestors went from Screven County, Georgia, to Gadsden County, Florida, prior to moving to Calvary, Georgia.Daniel and Marium were a part of the founding of Piedmont Primative Baptist Church in Calvary. The first meetings took place in their home and I have heard them referred to as the co-founders of this church.
In the 1820s, 1830s and 1840s, numerous families in the North Florida and South Georgia area came from Screven County, Georgia, counties in the Screven County area, and Sampson and Cumberland Couties in North Carolina. Many others came to this area through Alabama.
I am wondering if the reason John Henry Tillis went to the North Florida area from Alabama is because his father (Temple born 1825) knew or had known people or had relatives from Georgia who went to the North Florida and South Georgia area.
Thanks in advance for any information about the Temple and Thankful Tillis family above.I am still trying to figure out who Temple's (born 1825) parents were.
