In a response "to an honorable descendant" in Minneapolis MN, the "Genealogical Column" of the Times Dispatch of Richmond VA, 31 MAY 1908, p. 10, said "The first emigrant was evidently Henry TIMBERLAKE, who in 1620 came over with some of the first adventurers, among them the TUCKERS, TURNERS and others, who settled on the Eastern Shore.Benjamin and Henry TIIMBERLAKE were in the Colonial war, and Richard TIMBERLAKE was under General FORBES in the French War, 1758.Next we find Lewis TIMBERLAKE in Carolina county, 1799.After this the family spread to Fluvanna, Albermarle and Bedford counties.John TIMBERLAKE was the first clerk of Fluvanna, and died at eighty-nine years.His sons Walker, John and Horace, lived in Albemarle, where large numbers of the family have since resided. "From Charles county records, Mary TIMBERLAKE married William CHERRY, January 5, 1783; Lucy Drake TIMBERLAKE married Henry LACY, January 21, 1787; John TIMBERLAKE married Susanna CHRISTIAN, daughter of Gideon CHRISTIAN.In Lancaster county Francis TIMBERLAKEmarried Judith LAWSON March 19(?), 1730.The TIMBERLAKEs intermarried also with several of the SOUTHALIN. John TIMBERLAKE was a prominent lawyer of Albemarle, 1812. His wife was a daughter of John B. MAGRUDER. The family is still represented in Albemarle. (See the Rev. E. WOOD's 'History of Albemarle.')."
