Hello, I'm of a family of Tinteras also. The name Tintera means "to make laugh" - or - puppeteer or dollmaker. My grandmother, Anna Tintera (or Tinterova as girls were termed) was born 10/27/1881,the youngest of 7 children, in Musetice, Bohemia, near the cities/villages of Sedlice and Blatna.(In 1994 the archives for the area were located in Sedlice - I wrote them, but it was not productive). Her father, James (Vaclav) Tintera, was born 1837-38 in Musetice. He was a musician in a circus band. Her mother's maiden name was Barbora Rehor, born 1851-52 in Bohemia.Anna had 6 siblings:Frances, Marie, Joanna, James, Joseph and John. The girls all moved to the US. The boys all stayed in Bohemia, but met untimely deaths.John died of a heart attack at age 42.Joseph at age 18 of some medical/ear problem.James at age 21 on furlough in the military. Anna emigrated to New York in 1901-02 with several other women, (probably departing from Bremen, Germany) settled in NY for two years, happy to be on her own and independent. She worked as a cook in the home of a wealthy Czech family. She returned twice for solitary and unannounced visits to Bohemia to see her family. Once, in 1902, for the whole summer (her employers left Chicago in the summers, invited her to stay with them, paid her $100 for the summer, but she chose to go to see her family). She returned one last time in the spring of 1908.Her father James died November 2, 1908 so she was glad she had made the visit. She moved to Chicago in 1904-05 to be near 2 of her sisters. She continued working as a cook for two different families in Chicago. While visiting a sister in Adams County, WI in 1912, while recuperating from pneumonia, she met and shortly thereafter married Joseph Cekan. She became a farmer's wife, never returning to the life in the city she so enjoyed.Anna bore 3 children, George, Josephine and Ella.Ella died in childhood, George was my father (now deceased) and Josephine (my Aunt) is still living in the Chicago area. I don't know if this is of any interest to you, but it does not seem very many share our surname.I look forward to a reply from you in any case. Cheri Fuller-Olson.
