I don't have your information, but I am aware of Tirey's in Ind., Ohio and Kentucky. I'll tell you what I found in the beginning. A gr-aunt of mine (dec'd) wrote"The first we ever heard of the Tirey ancestors was of a cook in the French Army in Canada during the French and Indian war in the English colonies. On his off duty hours, he hunted in the woods for game and secretly built a canoe which he kept hidden, and later crossed the river into the New England Colonies. He defected from the French army and joined the English forces.Fleeing from the French necessitated changing his name.We are not certain what his name was but we have heard it related that it was Tyrer, I, Eva Tirey Eastman, believe Tyrier or Tirriea would be a more likely French name as the last part of French names ending in ier are pronounced like a long A.The name became Tirey and has remained so ever since. Later we have a record of a James Albert Tirey Born 1830 in Ohio. His parents were born in New York, perhaps the child of the defected French soldier or at least second generation of his descendants.(As the French & Indian War was from 1689-1763, this could not be a second generation, perhaps a 4th or 5th generation from the defected soldier. This would allow 25, years between generations from about 1760.The census does show that James parents were born in New York. James Albert married Mary Ann Ritchie daughter of Phillip Ritchie. She was born in Ohio and her parents were born in Va. James and Mary traveled west from Zanesville, Ohio in perhaps 1852 or 1854, by covered wagon over the "OLD National Trail"(Now U.S. Route 40). They settled around what is now St. Elmo Ill.
There is more, but right now it is unimportant. What I wanted to say, I think that my gr-gr-grandfather probably had siblings of which I am unaware of, but who I would like to find. If you know of any connections to what I have put down, please let me know.James Albert and Mary Ann Ritchie had a son Jacob who married Ella Sanford.Ella died of Malaria fever in 1887 and jacob died of Typhoid fever in 1902.They had 5 children, the youngest of which was 9 months old and he was given to the Oscar Wells family to raise. This 9 month old child was my grandpa Leslie Lee Tirey who married Ida Bell Shelton. One of their sons was Floyd and he was my father. I have the other 6 members of James and Mary Ann's family. Lucy born 1856, Sarah born 1859,H.Edgar born 1860, George born 1866, and Anna Laura born 1870 . I think there was another child, but I haven't found them yet. I Hope I have helped.I have heard other family rumors saying that the Tirey that escaped the French army had 2 sons, James and Robert. One migrated to Tenn., the other to Ky.Anna Marie
