read your posting with interest. Have been researching the Tishue/Tissue/Tisues for years. Lot of suposition. We know only that Capt. Wm., was born in Oct. 1740, near Chestertown Md. I don't know how anyone came up with a specific day.If someone has, please advise us of where they got the information. Secondly, there is no proof that Capt. Wm is buried in the Jersey Church.Again, that is, at best, heresay. He was an Epsicopalian, and Jersey Church is Baptist. No Tissue/Tishue belonged to that church till the mid 1800's. I personally believe that he is buried in the Tissue family cemetary just across the river from Confluence. Have recently found a few more graves in there, unmarked. There is also some scuttlebut that he was buried in a graveyard in town that was destroyed to build homes. Again, no proof, just suposition. Capt. Wm., was not in the PA line, he was a Capt. in the Bedford County militia. Two different organizations. He was also a "forager" and was paid by the US for that work. Either service will get a descendent into the DAR/SAR. If you are a descendent of him, please let me have your name and address and e-mail address, and we will notify you when the family reunion is to be held so you can come up and meet us.
J.Tishue, Jr. SAR member 132403, via Capt. William.
Oh. Capt. Wm, was married twice. First to a Hendrickson woman (no not Mary), but no issue of that marriage ever had descendents. He married, supposedly, Huldah Rush after the Hendrickson woman was murdered. Again, I believe what is proven. Verbal history is good, but evidence is better. We know only that Huldah's maiden name was SUPPOSED TO BE
Rush. We've never been able to prove it. I heard for years that his son Wm.Jr., was "also" married to a Huldah Rush. While researching that family I found that Huldah's maiden name was Van Sickle. So, you can see, not being a pain, just want to be correct.
