I are not related to the TIZARD or TIZZARD surnames, but in Canada, the name was usually spelled as TIZZARD. Most of them are found in the Canadian telephone listings in Newfoundland-Labrador, the part of Canada closest to Devon and Somerset which have been mentioned in previous postings on this website.
A few TIZZARD surnames, probably from Newfondland, are to be found in Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. Most of the other TIZZARD names are in Ontario or out west in ALberta and British Columbia on the Pacific.
Altogether, there are about 220 phone listings for TIZZARD in Canada. They started in Newfoundland which was England's first colony oversaes (it was first settled in 1497 - yes, 1-4-9-7) and only became part of Canada 452 years later, in 1949.
It makes perfect sense that England's oldest colony and Canada's newest province would be the home for TIZZARD names.
Does anyone posting here know more about the connection between the TIZZARD surnames of Devon, Somerset, etc. and what the connection is between them ?
