JOSEPH R. TOAL was born in Covington, NY, in 1855. In 1877 he married LYDIA A. PENNOCK, daughter of Ira and Jane (Campbell) Pennock, and came to Perry, Wyoming Co., NY, where he is a farmer and a member of the Presbyterian church. His father, David Toal, was born in Ireland, in 1829. He came to Covington, NY in 1850, married Mary Anne Noble, and still resides there. Mr. Toal's grandfather on his mothers side came to Wyoming Co., NY in 1815 from Vermont, making the journey with an ox team and being twenty-once days on the road. He was one of the early settlers in his neighborhood, lived in a log cabin, and helped open the roads through the woods. Ira P. Pennock, Mrs. Toal's father, was born in Perry, Wyoming Co., NY, in 1838, and after a time removed to Canada, where he lives. In 1856 he married Jane Campbell, who was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1833.
