My Todhunters came from Battersea area near London.I can trace them there to 1800's.
Evans Murray Todhunter and his family then moved to New York around 1900's and moved around a bit.My grandfather, Lancelot Todhunter did not go to New York with his parents as he was pursuing my Grandmother at the time.He came to Australia and lived there. The Todhunter name is nearly always connected to Cumberland or Cumbria in British Isles. The name is inevitably of Scottish origin so I have been told and there are many in those areas I mentioned . 'Tod' means 'fox'.Although I have also been told that the name does not mean 'fox hunter' in the traditional English sense.I hope this helps. :-)
