Wendy - Following up on my January 13 letter, I have gone thru the letters dated 1901-20 (in German which I don't read) searching for names which might mean something to you or your family. Most are from Grandmother's sister Olga. In one signed Berta the name Carl is mentioned; could they be your great grandparents?Names mentioned in letters from all: Johanna, Tante Joh, Tante Emma Dietrich, Cousin Helene Wolff, Lina, Marie __ Krebs, Tante Luise, Albert, Tante Ida, Uncles Hans, Carl & Ernst, Konig, Kleinschmidts, Grete, Olive(r/s?), Berta Mamlock, Schroder, Frl. Bieber, Frl. Kierstein, Frieda Penke, Lucas Mann, Berta Kaftan, Carl Thurkowski, Walter, Walter Poses, Robert, Romman, Tomas, Trude, Paula Runkel(sp?), Fr. Boehmann, Konrad Boehmann, Hedwig, Marta, Oswald, August; Mrs. Hulda Gall, 1473 2nd Ave., New York. The word Lopkes appears in several letters; is it a person's name?Jersey City with a ? mark is mentioned in a letter from Mutter. Sometimes several letter are jammed into one envelope, all post-marked Garnsee, including a letter, mentioning Hans, with a large stamp: Berta Schulz, Modistin, Borsigstrasse 3a, Berlin.Olga wrote all over the pages, upside down in the margins, & in one instance at right angles to what was previously written-so difficult to decipher!
I hope this will be of some help to you.Suzanne
