Re: Louisa E. Tollison - Union County, MS
william m. tollison married mary chilcoat in 1842 in lawrence county, mississippi. i have a copy of the marriage certificate.william m. tollison and mary chicoat begat 7 children john wilson, sarah elizabeth, jane, lou e., henry bell, robert, and william "uncle bill" tollison. the decendents now live in memphis, tn. w.h. tollison was my grand father so william m. was my g,g,g,g,grandfather. william m. tollison was born in 1824 in south carolina.
The William Tollison who married Mary Chilcoat is not the William Madison Tollison who was the father of the children you listed.
See the William Tollison/Mary Chilcoate post below for the children of that William.
The William who was our ancestor married(1) Martha A. Halsey. His second wife was Mary Jane Pannell.
Check the census: 1850 Federal Census - Tippah County, MS p. 427a; 1860 Federal Census - Pontotoc County, MS p. 630; 1900 Federal Census - Chickasaw County, MS p. 53A.

The William M. Tollison who married Mary Chilcoat is not the William Madison Tollison who was the father of the children you listed. If I remember correctly from my research, the William and Mary you refer to were married in Lawrence County, AL (not Mississippi) and ended up in Attala County, MS.
William Madison Tollison, son of Phoebe (Freeby) Young and Unknown Tollison, married Martha Halsey, daughter of Mr. Halsey (first name unknown) and Mary (maiden name unknown). Mary was first married to Mr. Halsey, then to Mr. Rodgers. Her third marriage was to Rev. Nicholas Roberts (great- grandfather of Moses Wiseman Roberts).
Other researchers have mistakenly listed Martha (wife of William Tollison) as Martha Roberts. Apparently, this was based on the following assumption: Since Mary Roberts (listed in the household of William and Martha Tollison in 1860) was probably Martha's mother, Martha was also a Roberts. Other researchers have listed William Tollison's wife as Mary Chilcoate/Chilcutt-the wife of another William Tollison. Both assumptions are incorrect.
The Death Certificate of Lou Tollison Rakestraw (my great-great grandmother) lists her mother's name as Martha Halsey. The will of Rev. Nicholas Roberts refers to "my wife and her two daughters." The daughters were Martha [Halsey] Tollison and Nancy [Rodgers] Carter-half-sisters.
The children of William Madison Tollison and Martha A. Halsey were: Sarah (born ca. 1844), John Wilson Tollison (born in 1845), Jane Tollison (born ca. 1849), Louisa E. Tollison (born in 1852); George Washington Tollison (born ca. 1857), Phoebe C. Tollison (born ca. 1859), Henry Bell Tollison (date of birth unknown), William "Bill" Tollison (date of birth unknown), and Robert "Bob" Tollison (born in 1870).
The Tollison family has been somewhat frustrating to research primarily due erroneous information rather widely circulated by previous researchers.
