I have just posted a reply to a query about Sgt. David Tomb will in Pike Co.MO on TOMB Family Genealogy Forum in which I discuss the Hugh Tomb of Bensalem.
Sgt. David Tomb came to what is now Chester Co.SC in 1767 with his parents Alexander Tomb and Elizabeth Love. Family tradition has it that he had a brother Hugh and their father was John.
Elizabeth Love's family came much earlier to Chester Co. PA and then moved down to SC where they owned much land, etc. long before Alexander and Elizabeth Love Tomb arrived with 5 year-old son David.
David Tomb married Sina Sharp of Cecil Co.MD which is just across the border from Bucks Co.PA, and there was a John Tom/Tomm/Tomb? who owned a racetrack just across the SC border near Guilford Courthouse, where Sina's Alexander and Sharp relations were quite prominent.
She was the daughter of Samuel Sharp and Sophia Alexander, granddaughter of Thomas Sharp and Isabella Wallis/Wallace; Theopolis Alexander and Catherine Wallis/Wallace.
Thomas Sharp was the son of Thomas Sharp was the son of Thomas Sharp and Elizabeth Fearne who were married 8 Oct. 1684 in Darby, Chester Co.PA. He was an astronomer and taught at Princeton if I remember correctly.
In Pike Co.MO, where David Tomb and Sina Sharp died, One of their son David Love Tomb and his wife Louisiana Bayse had a daughter who maried a TOOMBS. This was not the same family, though we have seen our name spelled Tomm/Toms/Tomb/Tombs/ and Toombs.
I have just recently found a William Tomb on IGI who was born in Ireland and had sons Hugh, David, John, and daughters Catherine, Mary, Elizabeth, and Margaret Jane.
The David Tomb, born about 1760 in Ireland married Elizabeth Dickson in Indiana PA and they had children: Catherine, Hugh, John, Mary, and Richard. The father David died 1838.
It might be that Dr. Hugh and Alexander had a brother William. This William I am discussing was born about 1730 in Ireland and married there about 1755. His son John was born about 1756 and could even be the John in NC.
There was another line of Tomb Family in PA headed by a Jacob and I find no connection between the two families.
There was also a Rev. Samuel Tomb in upstate New York on the VT border and he also left descendants.
If you have any suggestions as to how we go on from here, I would sure like to know how you are related to Dr. Hugh Tomb?
