I am a descendant of Jesse Strang b. ca 1763 Westchester County, New York. Lacking any primary sources, the general belief among his descendants was that he was the son of Daniel Strang, the British recruiter who was hung as a spy on 27 Jan 1777.However, recent Y-DNA tests have proved that Jesse is not male line Strang descendant. Since the Y-DNA test results of two descendants of Jesse are a 37 marker match with the Tompkins Y-DNA modal haplotype, Jesse's father was likely a Tompkins.
So, I need to determine which Tompkins families were living in Westchester Co ca 1763. Jesse's mother was likely Mary Strang b. est 1740-1745 and lived in either Hanover (Yorktown) or White Plains around the period of interest.
Any help in identifying these families would be greatly appreciated. Arthur
