book on TONE genealogy -- WARNING!
There is a book on the genealogy of surname TONE written by Frank Jerome Tone (self-published, 1944, Niagara Falls, NY) entitled, "History of the Tone Family."This book is online in HTML, PDF, and Word-DOC format at the Tone Family web site:

Frank Jerome Tone's book contains a section on the early history of TONE compiled by Gustave Anjou (1863-1942).TONE researchers should be aware that Gustave Anjou was a scam artist -- possibly the most notorious fraud known in genealogy. His work was not just sloppy or careless, it was deliberately fraudulent, containing not only fabricated lineages, but fabricated sources, making his work far more misleading than the careless mistakes typical of family history books.
Anjou's motive was profit, and his method was to create fabulous ancestries for rich clients, which is why his genealogies characteristically contain so many dazzling connections to royalty, famous people, and famous events. For further information on Gustave Anjou, please see this web site:

Also, a search for "Gustave Anjou" at Google.com or Yahoo.com will pull up more about this crook including, sadly, examples of people still being sucked in by his work.
The bottom line is: do not trust anything Anjou has written. He was not just incompetent, his work was deliberately fraudulent.
