I am in touch with Samantha as of last Sunday when I hit a post she had made about a year ago and made the connection.
We're posting data back and forth like crazy. I have managed to uncover my grandfather's Thomas birth certificate and his RN service record (the actual document).
This whole exercise started out as a project on my father's side of the family (Ken Smith) but with a name like Smith and from the Black Country you can imagine what that is like. So I figured what the heck and started on mum's side.....Tonks is a lot less common .
BTW.......Sam and I share a common occupation . To add insult to injury Dad was a member of the Birmingham City Police and subsequently the Kent County Constabulary.
Feel free to pass the word along that you've made the Canadian connection. I'm actually closer to your generation than Samantha's (age 50).
My mother, Joan Barbara, passed away in August 1989 and my Dad in December of 1991. Thomas passed away in August of 1947 and your aunt Annie in 1997.
Your uncle Thomas became a professional golfer and was the golf pro at the Liverpool Golf & Country Club (White Point Beach Lodge in White Point, N.S.) from 1930 to his death in 1947. He was also a founding member of the Liverpool Curling Club. He was well known in the Maritimes (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island) and was well respected as a golfer and a gentleman.
Can you contact me at this address- firstname.lastname@example.org as I have other family info I would like to pass along.
