Reference: Note by Jane Magarigal asking about her Tonery line in Ulster County NY on Tonery forum.
Emigrant bank records in NYC show acct 1672 of John Tonry and later accounts under the spelling John Tonery. Bio info indicates he was from Longwalk (Long Walk) near town of Roscommon and gives family info too. A John Tonery died in Dec 24,1880 age 60 and is buried according to net at Stanton aka Centennial Cemetery in Wurtzboro NY.
There is a Long Walk in Clooneybeirne Townland just ENE of Roscommon town. And apparent father of this John Tonery is in Griffith's Valuation as John Tonry with an Owen Tonry as subleasor in Clooneybeirne Townland. John Tonry NY had indicated one brother was Owen.
First name census searches indicate he lived in Sullivan County NY at Phillipsport- indexed as follows: 1850 -Forney , 1860 - Toldra , 1870 - Tornery , 1880 - Tonery. He was a lock tender on the Delaware-Hudson Canal. His marriage to Honora Fannon in 1844 is as John Tonry in Roscommon and Kilteevan Parish. Their first son John was born in Ireland and other children born in US. NY immigrant arrivals show her as Honora Tonry with son about 1847 or 1848.
Tonroy family history says our greatgrandfather Bartholomew and brother Martin came from a Long Walk which we had not been able to locate.
Our greatfather was probably brother or cousin of this John Tonery of Phillipsport NY (1820?-1800).
We are interested in contact with anyone who may know more about this family in NY and Ireland.
